Glossybox – May 2013

31 May

May Glossybox – My subscription is for $60 for 3 months, otherwise it is $21/month.

This is the box that burst my box subscription box bubble.

It’s been so thrilling receiving these subscription boxes over the last two months that it was bound to start tapering off. Am I jaded? Over box-stimulated? Looking a gift horse in the mouth? Whatever it is, I wasn’t nearly as thrilled with this month’s Glossybox as I was with April’s box. I LOVED my April box (TIGI Glow Blush is SO worth the entire box)! I think since I have never heard of any of this month’s brands and I don’t normally use masks or go to waxing salons and I just received a great black kohl eyeliner & Coolway styling spray in my Beauty Box 5, I don’t wear perfume very often, I didn’t find anything that I just couldn’t wait to bust out of the package to use. All in good time, I suppose.

Sebastian Volupt Spray Gel – approx $4. I am skeptical of the gel part, hoping it’s not like a crispy hair gel product.

Etre Belle Collagen & Aloe Vera Hydro Mask – $39 for 10. My boyfriend does more facial masks than me, but maybe I’ll try it out myself.

Nicka K Perfume Stick – I am not a perfume person, but Glossybox managed to find a scent I can handle. I really really like this, it has an earthy fresh scent that it’s not a synthetic chemical/alcohol smell and fits on lightly so you can build it up if you wash want or just have a light layer. I would love to see this as a scented candle!

Extreme Lashes by Jo Mouselli Gel Eyeliner Pencil in Xtreme Black & Pencil Sharpener – at first I was like “oh ok, another black pencil” buy NO. This only takes a very light touch to apply a dense black line = mop tugging on eye lids. Warning! You will need a really awesome makeup remover to clean this off, it really is going to be a long lasting liner. Of course I removed the cap, dropped the pencil, broke the tip off completely, re-sharpened it and then got to try it. Remove cap gently, ladies! #clumsy lol

Epionce Intense Defence Anti-Age + Repair Serum – Um, full size 30ml is $136, so upon closer inspection I am more excited to try this pricey sample.

European Wax Center Exfoliating and Slow It Body Lotion Sample Packet + Coupon for FREE wax at one of their salons.

I have to say that my favorite part about receiving Glossybox is their presentation with the girlie pink box and the pink ribbon wrapped innards. This is one classy looking package to get delivered! I am building my excitement for the gel eyeliner pencil – how thoughtful to include a sharpener! Though I may complain about not being as excited for this month’s box of products, I am choosing the Extreme Lashes Gel eyeliner pencil as the validation item for this box. Also looking forward to the Sebastion Volupt Spray. The test for this spray will be using it and blow drying my hair – does it make my hair super frizzy like it usually gets or does it solve that problem??

I know this isn’t the most glowing review, but it you do want to try out a Glossybox subscription, here is my referral link: Sign up here

I haven’t actually referred anyone yet and I’m not sure how the referral points work (aka “glossy dots”), maybe I can use referral points towards a future box to review?

Was anyone actually excited for this month’s Glossybox contents? What was your favorite?

Salma Hayek Nuance Sample Box

27 May

Woohoo! I also got the Salma Hayek Nuance sample box from Birchbox! I opted in to the email notice to possibly receive Nuance samples, I didn’t know I would get a whole box of items to try. There were 5 items in my box. Free of parabens, based on her grandmother’s home made beauty recipes, and all available at CVS stores.

Mamey Fruit Volumizing Shampoo & Conditioner – I usually use EO brand from Whole Foods since it’s free of all the sketchy chemicals found in most shampoos. I am glad to try another “clean” brand. Regular price $7.99 each

My Super Secret Moisturizing Body Cream – Shea and honey infused family recipe, it’s pretty thick with a very light, sweet scent. Very awesome I used it on my arms and legs after shower today and my skin was thirsty! Okay, I’ll use this for a few more days and see what I think. Full size $14.99

Lights, Camera, Action Eye Trio – Hmm, I missed something, I can’t figure out where the liner is lol. No prob, I will use it as a duo!! Lol. I got a bronzey color “Champagne/Gold Shimmer”. Oh! It was a little stuck, I figured out the liner is on the opposite end as the shadow, the highlighter untwists in the middle, the shadow wand twists out of the gold shadow end. Folks, we now have a Trio! Yay! Full Size $8.79

AM/PM Anti-Aging Super Cream – Antioxidant rich moisturizer. I haven’t even opened this to try it yet, all in good time. Too many boxes, so many products to sample!

How exciting! The card included says this is a sponsored box, probably by cvs and Salma Hayek, so it was sent separate from my regular Birchbox subscription. I’ve seen this brand in the makeup aisle at CVS, but never thought to try it since it was a new, unknown brand. I may be wearing the eye trio tomorrow! 😉

Zoya – Jacqueline Nail Polish Experiment

26 May

My May Ipsy Glam Bag brought me Zoya nail polish in Jacqueline. This is my first Zoya polish, I really wish it had made a better impression. I am spoiled now with my growing collection of Julep polishes. Jacqueline is an opaque off white color, it’s really thick and streaky, I had a hard time applying clean even strokes. Photo above is 3 coats, plus gold glitter Suncoat polish from my May Eco Emi box (review post coming soon).

Today I decided to mix in a powder eyeshadow to my Zoya color. Here are the potential options. Loreal HIP (high intensity pigment) kohl eyeliner powder in Burgundy, Teal, Navy, Urban Decay loose powder in Gunmetal & Protest.

I tested each powder color with a big drop of polish.

Mixed together, 3 of the 5 options turned gray. I opted to use HIP in Teal. It got a little messy, but I dumped in about 1/3 of the container into the nail polish and started shaking.

Looks pretty cool so far!

Just keep shaking….

TheBalm Nude ‘Tude Palette

26 May

I ordered The Balm Nude ‘Tude Palette from a few weeks ago when it was 50% off! I have all three off the Shady Lady palettes and The Balm and the Beautiful Palette (same as the Muppets limited edition palette) and I love the creamy texture of The Balm’s eyeshadows. I couldn’t justify buying more eyeshadows than I can use in this lifetime, but I couldn’t resist the Nude Tude palette any longer – I just had to have it! Regularly $36, I paid $18 + CA tax & 5.95 shipping = $25.57

12 shadow palette with the “naughty” packaging. The “nice” version doesn’t have the naked ladies behind each shadow color 😉

Close ups from left to right Sassy, Snobby, Stubborn, Stand-offish,

Selfish, Sultry, Sophisticated, Seductive,

Sexy, Silly, Serious, and Sleek.

I haven’t swatched the colors yet, but I did notice that Stand-offish looks like a dope for Urban Decay’s Sin. Sultry I tried on my eyelid and was completely skin tone with a hint of shimmer. I’m excited to try out all these colors!!

Did anyone else shop theBalm sale on Hautelook??

Here’s my referral link, I get $10 off my next purchase for referring someone and I will definitely let you know when the next 50% off is happening! Yay for makeup discounts!

Eco Emi Box – May 2013

26 May

May Eco Emi box had 9 items! $15/month subscription for eco friendly items. Its a recurring PayPal payment each month that can be canceled any time.

There are so many items in this box, the print on the card has to be super tiny to tell us all about it!

Here is a closeup of the Suncoat nail polish (clear with gold glitter) – $8. This is a water based polish, totally free of any chemicals! “Soak nails in water for 3 minutes to remove polish”. How cool is that?

Suncoat mascara in navy blue – Vegan, all natural ingredients – $15. I have been using this the last two days and I am impressed, I hate to admit I thought it might suck since it’s all natural. It lengthened and coated my lashes without clumping or flaking, it comes off easily with my usual thebalm carrot eye makeup remover.

Lauren Brooke Cosmetiques eye shadow powder in pink champagne – $9. Last month we got a creme shadow from the same brand, I use it as a primer since it is a really sheer creme color with some shimmer. I bet this powder color will go well over the creme from last month. Note that the container has a built in sifter, unlike the Ferro and Brazen mineral eyeshadows in my May and April Beauty Box 5.

I have been using the Mongo Kiss lip balm at night before bed, until yesterday my boyfriend took it! They sell it at Whole Foods for $1.99 – definitely recommend, plus I like that it’s fatter than regular chapstick tubes.

Okay, after 2 months of this box I have to say I love it. It’s a few brands I have heard of, mostly new brands to discover that are lesser known eco friendly options. I am a fan of my Eco Emi Box! No referral benefits, but I do recommend trying it out if you are looking to support finding new, natural, earth friendly products and brands
